Caring for our planet

Kids who learn math today will be the scientists, builders and leaders who look after the Earth tomorrow. So a share of every Mighty Mathletes membership goes to protecting the planet they’re growing up on.

Where the money goes

Part of Mighty Mathletes’ profits is set aside for two causes, every year:

Cutting carbon emissions

A share of our profits supports projects that reduce the carbon pollution that warms the planet.

Protecting coral reefs with the MSC Foundation

Another share goes to the MSC Foundation, which runs a coral reef program at Ocean Cay in the Bahamas. Its scientists find and grow tough “super corals” that can survive hotter oceans, then plant them back on damaged reefs, and they train students to become future ocean scientists.

Why coral reefs?

Coral reefs cover only a tiny part of the ocean floor, yet about a quarter of all ocean life depends on them. Warmer seas are making reefs sick, and helping them grow back is some of the most hopeful work happening in the ocean today.

It’s personal, too. Mighty Mathletes’ founder, Ryan, loves exploring the world’s oceans (that’s where the game Anchors Away came from), and he wants the reefs he has seen to still be there when today’s students grow up. Read our story.

Lighter on the planet in the classroom, too

Practicing math facts on a Chromebook the school already owns means fewer worksheets printed, copied and thrown away. Teachers can still print certificates and sign-in cards when they want to, and nothing else needs paper.

Mighty Mathletes is an independent company. We are not part of, or sponsored by, the MSC Foundation or MSC Cruises; we simply chose to support the Foundation’s coral reef work.
