Safety and privacy

Kids should be able to play without anyone worrying. Here is what Mighty Mathletes keeps, what it never does, and who is in control.

No student emails or passwords

Students sign in with a Mathlete code made from their name, a PIN they pick and a short ID. They never type an email address.

No open chat

There is no free-text messaging between players. Friends are classmates (or siblings) who both agreed to be friends.

No ads, ever

No advertising and no ad-tracking scripts. Kids’ data is never sold or used to target anyone.

Grown-ups in charge

Teachers and parents can turn off friends, multiplayer, music and individual games, remove a student, and shut down live games.

What we keep

  • For students: the name they typed, their PIN, their class or family, their game progress (MathBux, quest level, avatar, records), how they did on each math fact, the lessons and assignments they finished, a log of what they played and when, and their friends list. If their teacher gets a “guessing on purpose” alert, that alert is kept for 30 days.
  • ClassLink sign-in: when a student links their ClassLink account, we keep only a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of the account’s id, so the button can find them again. We never keep their ClassLink email or name. A teacher can remove the link at any time.
  • For teachers and parents: name, email address and sign-in details, and the classes or family they manage.
  • For family memberships: the plan you chose and its renewal date. Card details are entered on Stripe’s secure checkout page and are never sent to or stored by Mighty Mathletes.

Who can see it

  • A student sees their own progress (if their teacher allows it) and their friends’ names and game records.
  • A teacher sees their own classes. A school admin sees the classes in their school. A parent sees only their own family.
  • Other families and other schools can’t see each other at all, including family names.

Where it lives

Data is stored with Supabase, a hosted database service, and every change to game data goes through our server, which checks the rules. Browsers can’t change MathBux, prices or progress directly.

Removing data

Teachers and parents can download everything kept about a student, or remove the student from their dashboard, which deletes that student’s account and activity. Parents can delete their whole family account from the Family page. For anything else, send a privacy request.

This page explains how the program works in plain language. The full details are in our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Parents’ Bill of Rights, with the details for schools in our Data Security and Privacy Plan. Schools that need a data privacy agreement can ask us.
